Wow -- this has been a rough couple of months.  O.K.  I'm really not one to talk about my health issues but since I revealed I have Scleroderma and Fibromyalgia and these DO play a part in my attempts at living a creative life (the whole point of this blog), well...I guess I should discuss this once in awhile.

So, I had a bad sinus infection and bronchitis in November... another cold (that lasted about 4 weeks) in January...a severe case of stomach flu in February... and yet another cold in March.  Being on immune-suppressing pain medicine definitely has its downside!  (Well, more on that later...)

Even with all of that, I have STILL been forging on and working on something creative every day!  No small feat in itself:  when I'm on an antibiotic I can't take my main pain medicine (they basically cancel each other out).  I don't really notice anything different if I'm off it for only a week but the longer I'm off it the more pain I feel.  That definitely makes it difficult to be creative...and more difficult to even WANT to do anything remotely creative.  (I'm trying my best -- creating things is the only thing that saves me some days.  That, and my fuzzy kitties...  :-)

More soon.  Just wanted to mention why I haven't been around much lately...

Happy New Year, 2016!

This past year was certainly busy -- I'm still out here and still creating daily!  I have lots to catch up on but wanted to show you a little of what I've been up to...

In 2015. I made a few new friends:

(Patterns were used with permission by FreshStitches.com)

Learned some new (and sometimes scary) techniques:

And relaxed with good friends:

I hope this New Year finds you relaxed, happy...and creative!

Hmmm...that title sounds a bit questionable (to say the least!) but what I'm talking about are Magic Yarn Balls!  I received my order today from Fresh Stitches (www.freshstitches.com) and here it is!  (No, I'm not in any way connected with this site, I'm just a fan.  :-)

Nice packaging... Cute logo...

Awesome yarn!

Now, what to make with these beauties...?

In case you're wondering, Magic Yarn Balls are made with different colors of yarn (remnants) that are connected with a Russian Join so you don't have to weave in any ends!  Love this -- what a great way to use up old bits of yarn!

Next, I'm going to make some Crazy Balls of my own...

Back Soon!

What have I been up to for the past few years...

Yes, I'm still out here.

YES, the little counter in the upper left that currently says "I've created daily for 2 years...9 months...28 days...5 hours, 33 minutes" IS still accurate!  :-)

And yes, I've had a lot going on in my life for the past few years.

I started this blog intending to write about my creative projects, post lots of 'in progress' shots (LOVE those!), and highlight some of my work in my ArtFire and Etsy shops.  I still plan to do all of that but practically right after starting this blog I developed some health problems.

To my friends out there:  I'm  OK!  Promise!

This is a bit complicated but here's the Reader's Digest Condensed version...

In May, 2013 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Arthritis, and Systemic Scleroderma (a rare auto-immune disease).  My rheumatologist told me she doesn't see Scleroderma often and her patients that do have it go to Northwestern University in Chicago (they have a Scleroderma Program) for a day or two of testing and then she follows their protocol/recommendations.  After the initial testing, patients usually go back to Chicago a few times a year.  She asked if I was interested in pursuing this (I was) and she took care of contacting them, etc.

So, last August I had my appointment at Northwestern with Dr. Monique Hinchcliff.  During my visit with her she confirmed the diagnosis:  I have Limited Systemic Sclerosis (Scleroderma) and I was "one of the lucky ones."  After taking my medical history, etc. she said I've had symptoms going back as far as 10 years (it's a slowly progressing disease) and if it hadn't developed into one of the more serious versions of it by now, it probably wouldn't.  The worst things I have to deal with right now:  joint pain, digestive problems and fatigue.

I didn't have to go through 2 days of testing -- just some blood work and I go back in August for a yearly check-up.  (My college Roomy, Kathy, met me downtown after my appointment and we had a fun afternoon in Chicago.  Hmmm, Kathy -- what are you doing in August this year?  ;-)

Why am I revealing all of this now?  (And in a BLOG?!  AUUUGH!)  Well, I wanted to come clean and move past this and get back to my creative projects.  Speaking of which... I do plan to make/sell some teal colored creations my in Etsy/ArtFire stores.  (The sale of these items -- though I'm not sure what they might be yet -- will benefit Scleroderma Research.  And yes, Scleroderma has an Awareness Ribbon -- a teal one.)

Yeah, this is something I have to deal with -- but we'll all have something to deal with eventually.  And maybe by talking about this a little I'll be able to help someone else out there who is also dealing with it.  (Pay it Forward, right?)

Fibromyalgia and Arthritis and Scleroderma -- my Aunt Pat is right.  When I told her about all of this, she said that when I do something, I do it up right!

More soon,

Sunday, July 1, 2012

Well, I DID create something everyday for the past year...with one exception:  I didn't do anything on May 24th -- but I forgive that day.  That was a sad day.  :(

I did start a brand new shiny "Create Something Everyday for a Year" project today (July 1st).  I'm not sure if I want to define the focus of it any more than that, but I do know that I want to record more of my progress more here, along with in-progress pics.  I have lots of posts I need/want to catch up on, quite a few completed items to post on Etsy, and LOTS of blog posts to catch up on.

It's been a very busy beginning of the summer...the 2nd half should be less busy with more time to spend on blogging, posting, etc.    ;)
